So today is a hard day for me. I dropped my little baby girl off at the vet this morning to have a scope done on her ear so we can figure out why she is tilting her head and off balance. She has to be put under and this is the first major thing for her while we have had her. I'm so worried but happy that we will finally get some answers. I just hope she is okay and i hope she isn't to loney there all by her self without her mommy and sister. I can't wait until 5 to come around and get to pick her up and get some answers! Wish us luck! |

It is very hard for me to leave her. I almost cried when i got here to work this morning. I'm so worried about if something would go wrong or what if she doesn't wake up? My daughter was even a little upset when we left. She kept asking if we were going to be able to pick her up later. She was thinking we were going to just leave her there and not pick her up again. I can only explain it as she is my second daughter and if it were my human daugher i would be by her side the whole time. It's just so hard! I miss my little Izzy girl already! I'm just trying to keep myself busy and not think about it. |

Sending good thoughts your and Izzy's way that it's a simple procedure and they find out what's going on and are able to offer an easy solution I'm sure she'll be fine, but I know how you feel - I could barely stop an anxiety attack when I left Daisy for spaying |

I totally understand, my ratties are like my kids, too. I was nervous just leaving Mayfly for spaying. When I had to leave Mitzy for spay and having her eye removed I was a wreck! But Izzy will be fine, you have to do what's best for her. You're right to keep busy - and try not to call the vet every five minures...just every 15 minutes lOL! |

| I haven't even gotten Izzy spayed yet. She has to wait at least two weeks after this scope to be able to be spayed per the vet. Her spaying will be really hard though too because then we have to leave her over night. I know i won't be getting much sleep that night. I'm not looking forward to it either. But i may put that off alittle while longer too. Maybe until the first part of june. |

Thanks to you all for your thoughts and kind words this is like therapy for me. Izzy will be fine and i know it is best for her. And she will be happy when she can walk much straighter and not deal with this whatever it is. I'm proud of myself in that i haven't even called the vet once yet! They aren't suppose to do her scope until around 2. I just wish the day was over and i had my baby girl in my arms! |

I just wanted to update you all on Izzy. The vet just called and said that Izzy was done with her scope and that she was just waking up. They didn't tell me what was wrong but i will find out tonight when i pick her up. I'm so happy it is over and i will know soon what is wrong. I will keep you all posted and let you know tomorrow what i found out. Keep your fingers crossed for us that it is only something minor!!
P.S. they told me they were not going to be able to do the scope until 2 this afternoon! I'm glad they did it now so i didn't even know it was going on!! |

So here is Izzy's update~
There is good news and bad news.
Apparently as a stray she either has some kind of head trauma or had a ear infection and either one of the two was left untreated.
By doing the scope they were able to see that Izzy has some scar tissue in her bulla (I think that is how you spell it, I believe it is her ear drum) and no air was allowed to flow through as it should be. This is what was causeing her head tilt and balance issues. To correct this hopefully they went in and lasered a very small hole in her bulla. and flushed it out with fluids. The doc explained to me it is sort of like a child getting tubes put in there ears just with out the tubes. It opens up the air ways to the ear drum. They kept some of the fluids removed from her ear and are doing a culture on it. If the culture grows then she still has an active deep inner ear infection and it will be easily treated. If nothing grows then there is really nothing that can be done and Izzy will always walk with a head tilt and be off balance.
I should know today or tomorrow about the culture. I'm praying (this sounds really bad) the culture does grow meaning she does still have an active ear infection and we can treat it and Izzy will walk normally and not have a head tilt
As a result of the surgery yesterday Izzy is very off balance and will be for a day or two. I was so worried that i put a gate up at the top of the steps last night while we slept so that she wouldn't fall down the stairs since she is so off balance right now.
Also she is on two different medications, i don't know how to spell them but one is an anti inflamitory and the other to treat the ear ifection if that is what she has. Because of the one med she is on it is causing her to potting alot. Every two hours i was having to take her out last night and we just started her meds last night. The other makes her pant alot which makes her thirsty thus having to potty alot. Doc says this will go away after about 3 days when we start to lower her doses of the meds.
But overall good news. Either way nothing life threatening or very serious. She will be OKAY!
And again ,thanks to everyone for your help in getting me through this tough time with Izzy!! |

Aw, so glad it's nothing serious but I can understand what you mean about wanting it to be an infection that can be completely cured. My Skipper has some lasting effects of going without medical treatment, too. And he wasn't a stray - he had an owner who just didn't take care of him. |

I'm sorry that she's having problems because of apparent neglect Poor girl!!! Hopefully there's an infection (which does seem weird to say) and getting it cleared up will fix her balance issues. Wishing her tons of luck !!!! |

Just thought i would supply an update on Izzy. She is back to normal now and her balance has improved greatly!! She is still tilting her head but i think at this point it is out of habbit from doing it so much before. But she is acting so much more like a puppy then an adult. She had issues getting up and down the stairs before since she was off balance. Now she is flying up and down them with no problem. She also is running so much better i didn't think it was that bad before. Seeing her now and how much better she is running tells me that her surgery helped greatly!! I should find out today from the vet if she still has an active ear infection and i will update you all again as soon as we know!! Happy Wednesday everyone!! |
