My little boy was fixed in November, could he stil get my girl pregnant in May?   I have searched the next for how to tell if she is pregnant, and she has all the signs.  Swollen body parts, (being polite) vomited 2x, sleeps a lot, and small firm golf ball in stomach region.

Any polite thoughts on my plight? (looking for helpful info, not a flogging)

What kind of things should I ask a vet to perform if/when puppies are born?

was she around any other dogs lately? or left unsupervised in your yard perhaps? i'd think it's highly unlikely if it was your neutered dog...

sorry i'm not very helpful, but i'm sure you should get some more responses soon good luck!

I'd get her in to the vet - if your boy is truly neutered and she hasn't been around other boys, the swollen parts could be an infection - worth check for her sake either way. And if she is not, please consider getting her spayed.

Yes, please get her to the vet. It's unlikely your male could have gotten her pregnant. It could be infection or false pregnancy (unless she's been around another male).

There is a possibility that a netured male can father pups. And it is not as rare as you would think. That being said, she needs to see a vet. You need to know if it is puppies on something else. That way you know what coming or not! Good luck and keep us posted PLEASE.

Well if that is the case, you need to get him re-done (and tell the vet it better be free cuz they MISSED)

By parts I was also including 8 perky nipples the size of a bic pen tip.

I am planning on taking her to the vet, but the web sites said about 20 some days. So I am going next Saturday.  Me and my friend who is a nurse also thought about an infection, but her mood has not altered , she is not warm any place, certainly no change in appettite or bowl movements.

No, she has not been around any other dogs and never without my boy around either. They stick together like glue, no pun intended.

I will keep you posted, and perhaps go to a clinic during the week if available.

If your girl is pregnant it shouod not be your boy. Males are still potent for 30 days after neutering but that would not be in the right time frame for her. I'd look close at any other males around..... neighborhood etc. Of course she could be having a false pregnancy.???

I think this is the answer. Someone suggested a False pregnancy, so I goggled it. Thanks for the suggestion. But, we are still going to the vet and yes she will be fixed too. I don't want more rats, no matter how wonderful they are.

FALSE PREGNANCY IN THE DOG occurs when the bitch produces both physical and psychological
The bitch will often produce milk, engage in nesting activity and look like she's pregnant Visible changes take place beginning about 4 weeks after the heat cycle begins (estrus) and can continue for a number of weeks. False pregnancies are always unpredictable and can show up whether or not a mating has occurred. Often so much milk is produced the bitch becomes uncomfortable. Once a dog has had a false pregnancy she's likely to be afflicted again.
The exact hormonal mechanisms that must occur to trigger false pregnancy are as yet unknown.
Fortunately 90% of false pregnancies resolve over a period of three weeks with no treatment. Since no real harm is done there's no reason to speed up what nature will take care of in time
Most often the veterinarian will administer a hormone to interrupt the dog's secretions of internal hormones that may be promoting the production of more milk.

how odd, can this happen to a dog that is already spayed?

No, It does not happen if they are spayed as it is caused by hormone imbalance. As for the male, Neutered male dogs that are neutered after they have been bred frequently are often not aware that they were neutered and will happily breed any females that are in heat that are around them. They will not get them pregnant, as they are neutered.

False pregnancy is a possiblily in your female but do please have a vet check her out. An infected utrus often shows no signs of infection and does seem like a pregancy until just before it is bad enough to rupture. I have had this happen more than once to me with different bitches. There is usually no fever with this type of infection until the latter stages and in the later stages the chances of your female surviving are much less even if the vet does everything he/she can. Do please go to the vet and let them make this call!

I agree with Susan - get her checked out asap just in case it's an infection!
