We finally got our rattie puppy, Parker. Is it normal that he really only wants to be with me? We brought him home Monday night, and he is seriously attached. If I leave the room, he cries even when being held by someone else. If he is about to be picked up by someone, he'll look to me for approval first, and it;s driving DH crazy. Granted I spend the most time cuddling the "baby", but DH wanted him for a "woodchucking partner". Also, he is 9 wks old and weighs 3.5 lbs. Parents were both about 15 lbs. Any thoughts on how much he'll weigh? Thx!

Welcome to the site. Your kiddos are adorable. Can't wait to see pics of Parker, too. I live in central Texas and have two 12 lb. females....Button is 4 and my rescue Zipper is 2. Sometimes they bond more with one person than another. I'll bet your children just love him. Is this their first dog? Be sure to stop in over on our training forum and check out the pinned topics on housetraining and crate training. You're gonna get addicted to this place. Wonderful members with lots of good advice on raising little Parker. Stick around!

Welcome!! We need pics! Both my boys were and still are attatched to me the most. They will "accept" hubby when I am not home (lol) but if I am home I am number 1. Good luck and feel free to ask questions.

Welcome! A lot has to do with who the primary care giver is. In my house, my official title is "Mom - The Giver of All Good Things". I work from home so I spend the most time with the dogs. Plus I am the one who tends to injuries, comforts new dogs, feeds them most of the time, does the basic training (though Jeff/hubby is very good at teaching them tricks). If your hubby wants to bond with the dog, have your hubby do the feeding and training. That alone will work better than anything else. Especially if he has one on one time with treats teaching the pup basic commands.

The kids ADORE him! This isn't our first dog, but our beagles that we have stay outside. (They aren't what I refer to as pets...they are "working" dogs. I tried having one in the house, and it was impossible to house train her, even with the crate, so I resigned to letting hubby do as he wishes with his "kids".) I can't believe how sweet tempered this little guy is. Normally my DD is such a little Elmira...well, she still is, but he tolerates her extremely well. I'm going to take pics of the three kids this weekend, and I'll try to post.
