You will be so proud of me!!
I drove out to one of our job sites today to check on Idiot Men...they were goofing off and not much was getting done. I was furious that they were slacking especially since they called for their paycheck this morning! I told them no work, no pay.
Well, I pulled up and asked what was going on. The boss man gave me a line about something holding up the job and that it would get done when they could get it done. I smiled ever so sweetly and said, "Okay, you know what you're doing and I have no idea so just keep up the good work."
I got in my car and drove to the nearest Subway sandwich shop, I got a bunch of sandwiches and the condiments on the side, big sweet teas and chips. Why, you ask? Just wait and see...
I pulled up and they still weren't doing much. I got out and unloaded this big lunch. The Idiot Men looked surprised but that didn't stop them from tearing into the meal I brought. I pulled out my files and contracts and sat down with them.
"Oh, you don't mind if I hang out do you? I have to make some calls but you go on ahead and eat."
I flipped open a file and dialed my phone, "Yes, is this Joel? Oh, great. This is Shannon with (company's name) I need your guys on a job we're starting next week. (short pause) Sure, let me give you the address. (Long pause) Oh, Joel, you are the best! Thanks so much!"
The boss man looked VERY upset, "Uh, was that Joel with (name of company)...our competitors??"
I looked up ever so sweetly, "Why, yes! Do you KNOW Joel? He's the best. I just hired his crew to do the job in (named the subdivision).
Boss man was now red faced and almost choking on his sandwich,"Joe contracted us to do that job!"
My eyes widened, "Oh, I am terribly sorry. You see, if THIS job doesn't get done, you won't have time to start a new one. I thought I'd give you all a break since you've had SO many challenges."
Red faced Boss Man hung his head, "Shannon, I get your point. We will get this done by Friday. You have my word on it."
I stood up and brushed off my pants. I shook his hand and said, "Next time you mess with me, don't count on us for any business. I will be back and I better see some progress."
I got in my car and drove away to a group of men hustling back up ladders. I called my mom and explained my recent strange phone call and called it a day!! Dang, I'm good!!  |

Yeah, I am pretty proud of myself!!
This crew is actually really good. They usually work fast and can be trusted. Joe warned me that they might slack off a bit but not to worry because he knew it would all be done in time. These guys are good ole boys that don't take orders from women... get the drift. So, when I showed up and actually stood up for myself, they didn't like that too much.
Joe did tell me that he warned Boss Man that I was a handful... he said Boss Man laughed and said that he could see that from my little performance today. He apologized to Joe and assured him that he would fully cooperate with me from now on. I actually think I may have won his respect. |

last time soem one pulled that " called your competitors and gave them the next job" shyt on me i folded up my rig and left ............they werent too happy about being left with 1200 cu/yds of concrete and no BOOM PUMP to place it
they promptly called back and begged my boss to send me back, they are regular customers that cater to us now, full contract for ALL thier jobs. i dont mess with attitudes or ppl thinking they have the upper hand, we are all EQUALS trying to get to the same outcome , the more we comunicate the more we get done.
besides they pay $250 an hour $5per cu/yd pumped $75 slurry fee and 18% fuel surcharge and thats CHEAP, i get paid by the hour and have my own pace regardless of what a contractor /owner says |

Yeah, well the last time someone did that on one of my Dad's jobs...they were replaced and never used again. The owner/contractor is the customer and attitude can make or break a customer relation... |

| not in my line of work , i run the LARGEST concrete pump in the carolina,virginia,TN area ............ when they need it they NEED IT there is no one else with the reach we have. 99% of the time it goes smoothly we all get together after hours and hang out , all friends, but thet .1% of the time bad day they get the bad ened of the deal. |

Thats all fine and good, being the LARGEST doesn't mean being the ONLY! My Dad runs the LARGEST commercial plumbing company in Eastern NC, but he doesn't treat his customers like he thinks he is the ONLY plumber. |
