One of the things that the Aloff recommends teaching is the quiet command to stop your dogs from barking. So I started on this command today with Henry, and I'm totally amazed with how fast he picked it up! It makes me wonder if his foster family had started teaching him this before I got him. I thought it would be a really tough thing to teach, but so far it's been a breeze. I like it!

If you've got a dog that this is easy with -- GOOD FOR YOU!!! (seriously!) With most dogs, this is a very difficult command to teach because it goes against their nature.

I spent several months teaching Bailey "NO BARK" on command. Bailey wasn't quite as easy to train this to as Henry is! You're fortunate!

We'll see what happens when I turn it up a notch by having my husband knock at the door! Henry is extremely motivated by food, and I used string cheese for this, which he loves. I must have gotten the timing right in the beginning, too.

If you are so inclined... you can use a clicker for this. That's how I did it... but if what you are doing works for you that's great! I said "NO BARK" and the very nano-second he stopped and looked at me, I clicked and treated. It worked well for me. Eventually, I didn't need the clicker anymore.
