My foster girl May West is one quirky gal who I have found is very smart!  Since she is a full figured gal she really needs to work on losing some weight.  She hasn't been on too many walks due to her spay and healing leg injury (both all healed now!) so I have been working on obedience commands with her.

To fit this into my crazy schedule she works for her meals.  She gets 1 to 2 small meals a day and depending on time will sit multiple times for a few pieces of kibble and follow me around the house.  She now sits like a pro and really gets what is happening!

Today I decided to work on her to see if she will lay down or obey the "down" command.  She did it!!  I used the whole 1/4 cup of kibble to get her to sit, down and also go get it (tossing food in random places).  When I did the go get it she runs so excited to get that 1 piece of kibble.

She is really amazing me.  We have a ways to go, but with her rapid progress it will be sooner than I think she will know plenty of commands.

I hope to have a video of her training/eating by the end of next week.  I will probably work on an agility jump with her as well.  Woo hoo for May West!

Go May May! It won't be long before she gets her girlish figure back. How is she doing with the other Rats in your house hold?

Kim,

She does well overall with the other ratties in my house (6 others) and she is still learning the ways of the pack.  She likes to be the boss and I have other bossy ratties so they have arguements every now and again, but they are becoming less and less.

Curly (he was the one who got loose at Jamboree) likes to bark at her and get her going so that doesn't help her in training.  So I guess he needs to work on some skills as well.

With 7 ratties at my house I would say she is handling things like a pro!

I think she had a rough life before coming to us so we just put patience in the mix and keep working with her.

She is sweet as all get out!!
