If you bought a few pieces fo furniture for your house where you live with your girlfriend and YOU paid for it. Would you be offended or mad if your girlfriend put the stuff togehter and set it up while you were at work??
Details:
you are working tonight, Saturday night and Sunday night from 6pm-6am.
your girlfriend is really good at putting stuff together and fol.ows directions very carefully
you are a tad OCD
 any advice from Males or Females would be greatly appreciated!

| Hubby would Thank me. BUT, I used to hate it when he cleaned the house (that would be MY OCD) I have changed since kids, but in my mind I still had to clean cause he just wouldn't do it "right". So maybe in his mind the stuff wasn't put together right cause he didn't see it or do it himself? Or maybe that was part of the fun of it for him. |

 Hmmmm...this is a tough one for me. See in my house I am the one with OCD. I think I may get upset if something I bought was assembled w/o me. BUT I am also a touch ADD so assembling anything really isn't my thing either. Seems I am of no help after all. Sorry.

Ummmm, to be perfectly honest---yeah, I would probably act out a little (even if I was glad that I didnt have to put the thing together myself) just because that would be my INSTANT MENTAL REFLEX MECHANISM at work. After I thought about it, I'd apologize for being a jerk while I was eating that meatball sub. ((( hint: It's the OCD thing that is the clue to the reaction here)))

It's all in the presentaiton. The meatball sub is good, LOL, but I would present it as 'what I did for you because I love you" like with a bow on it or something. He needs to know you are helping since he is working so hard, not taking over.
Actually, I have been married 21 years. if I waited on hubby to put something together we would be celebrating 50th anniversary. I'm the putter together in our relationship and probably because I will actually READ the instrucitons.
Im the larger scheme of things, who cares who puts it together as long as it gets done. Sound slike you have more time.

| Like Vickie said, I'd put it together and then when he comes home from work, tell him that you knew how hard he has been working and how you wanted to help him by taking away some of the stress off him by helping out with the furniture...an act of apprectation. |

I know the feeling...the time Kevin and I tried to put a swing set together, I ended up getting hit in the mouth with a hammer (totally accidently) ...we ended up out there at midnight yelling at each other.....we decided then that we shouldn't put things together..............together! |

| well, I looked more closely at the boxes last night and....they were mirrors, and bowls, and decorative items...the furniture has not arrived....hehe...OOPS!.....but it probably will arrive today and I think I will go ahead and put it together while he is working tonight. hopefully he will just shut up and appreciate it! |

Its not like im scared hes gonna beat me! I dont have time for "that kind of ego" either. It has nothing to do with an ego. I was curious whether or not the guys on here would WANT their girlfriends to put it together or if they may be slightly offended (cause they wanted to do it because they paid for it, or they wanted to do it together) There is an excitement when you purchase things wand wait for them to be delivered. I get it...where you want to help take it out of the box and oooh and aaaah and all that stuff...i just didnt want to be taking that away from him...wondering if the benefits outweighed this.
We are very good partners which is why I am considering this at all. I didnt pay for it, it was shipped in his name which means i dont just have the RIGHT to open it and put it together...assuming that i did have that right without considering his feelings would be wrong. That would be an ego. I am carefully considering how he would feel, trying to put myself in his shoes, as I do with most people. If I bought a really neat doggie door or something, and it was shipped and michael had already put it together and used it, I am wondering if I may be slightly offeded, not because of an ego, but because there was an excitement when I bought it....to help put it together and set it up and such that I would be missing out on...thats all. |

| In my house I have to put everything together, my wife is not "mechaniclly inclined", she thinks to hard then startes adding wordsto the instructions, so it comes out alll wrong and upside down. So my adivice to you is if you can do it, then just do it. If he's a real man he would tell you thank you and give you a big hug and a kiss. If it's worng then fix it later when your not home. |

I live with an OCD male and I'm laughing trying to figure out the reaction I would get from ricky if I was in your situation.
I know if it was me, he wouldn't be a happy camper. I bought him a grill for his birthday last year and had to have them bring one out from the back still in the box because I knew he would have been analyzing the grill for hours to make sure it was done right....lol. He had to do it himself even though it took 4 hours to assemble. But, if it were a regular guy which Mycheal seems to be, it probably wouldn't be too big of a deal especially if you turned it into a surprise for him.
I'm like you and would want it all out of the boxes ASAP so i could play with it all. Plus, i would probably have all the pieces of the furniture laid out on the floor with no clue where to go from there, but as you said, you are good at putting theings together, me not so much. You live with Mycheal and I'm sure he looked at it as an "us" purchase, not a "him" purchase. That's really how Ricky and I look at most things even though we're not married yet, but he doesn;t let me assemble much because he knows it will be a mess.
But if the roles were reversed and I was the one that paid for it all, and he had it put together by the time I came ome, I would be happy, because its not my forte. If your capable of doing it, and you know it isn't one of Mycheal's idosyncracies (this would be one of Ricky's) then I say go for it, and put a bow on it and make it a surprise.
Plus its always better to ask for forgivemess than permission, right? |
