I'm sorry to always talk about my moms pup all the time but Im really starting to get worried. The pimple like bumps STILL exist. My mom has spent nearly $1000 between 2 different vets trying to figure out what it is and we just can't nail it. They think its some type of food allergy but thats all they say. One vet perscribed a food but he has also been on some type of medication called Clavamox. But I think he is begining to become immune to it because when he's on it the bumps are very minimal, but now they seem to be coming in more and more. He is clearly in pain because he chews at his feet and itches his sides. I just feel helpless and wish there was something to do. If anyone has any helpful information I could use I would love for you to share.

Honestly Im not sure what exactly what the medication was for, I think to prevent or help the "infection" I know it has amoxicilian in it. The food was something from the vets office that was supposed to be very good stuff.... but I dont think it is according to what ive learned on here. I will have to look for what it was called, we finished the bag and my mom started her dogs back on Eukanuba because thats what she has always fed them.

Innovative Veterinary Diets (IVD) Royal Canin. Potato and Duck formula. He said its the only pure food that does not contain beef product at all.

They are metal or the steel bowls most pet stores have... but they are on a rubber mat... hmmm now I'm curious... maybe the mat? Then again the bowls have ALWAYS been on this mat.

Clavomox is JUST antibiotic! it sounds like the same problem Caesar has(had)he can't handle ANY grains! even doggy treats w/ them in it,also preservative's too! the(natural balence) Duck &potatoe(for allergy skin) has NOTHING!but duck &potatoe he has gotten well the 1st time in his whole life!6yrs) Also with a limited list of OFFEDERS! you can figure it out better too! Also I switch'd them to the other duck&potatoe they make, the one with more stuff in it and Shamus broke out in blotches all over!!! and caesar started to scratch too,so I switch'd back quick!

What's the best Duck and Potato you would recommend? The stuff the vet recommended? Also when it's an allergy is it always grains? Because my mom said the vet kept talking about beef and staying away from it... I thought beef was good for dogs?

If you believe it's a food related allergy,  then I would suggest you request a nutritional consult at www.betterdogcare.com  .  She can put together a true elimination diet that should determine whether or not it's caused by food.  Her rates don't look bad and the alternative is that you'll go round and round with the vets and they'll likely never find out what's wrong.

In the meantime,  if it could be a type of fungus,  you might try mixing equal parts water, listerine and baby oil and massage it in to his skin.  Supposedly it helps with hot spots.  I hope the poor guy can find some relief soon. (Your mom too)

Also, if it is food related, being on Eukaneuba isn't going to help. She may have been fine on it before, but allergies can pop up at any time. If you want to rule out a food allergy than you need to go on a single protein/single carb formula and it has to be just that for 12 weeks. No treats or scraps of anything other than the protein/carb that is in the food. Natural Balance makes Duck and Potato food and also treats so you can still treat them without worrying about introducing foods. Unless you try that for 12 weeks you can;t fully rule out a food allergy. Eukaneuba is FULL of by-products and fillers which can very likely cause allergies.

Ski is right, an elimination diet can really help. Also, sometimes once they are in allergy flare it's hard to figure out the real trigger. A few years ago my Roxy went into allergy flare due to spring allergies we think. She started reacting to Chicken and then Beef (we feed raw, remember, so no grains at all anyway). Our vet had us put Roxy on turkey and rice (home cooked not raw, and the rice was cuz it was mild I think, not sure why she had us add that) and nothing else (not even supplements) for a while until the allergy cleared up (3 weeks), then we started slowly adding and testing things, which is how we figured out it was the chicken and beef causing her the flare so we had her on turkey and lamb and fish for proteins for many years.

Here recently she started eating both chicken and beef again after 2 years off with no trouble at all and has been fine for a few months. Her system just needed a reboot I think and meanwhile she has gotten a better immune system going too due to her diet and supplements.

Good luck. I know how frustrating this can be when it's happening.
