Drive all over creation to help save his rattie brothers and sisters.
Give up vacations in favor of dog time.
Prepare healthy food for them often better than my own diet
Keep them fit and trim (and sometimes I get fit in the process!!)
Train them so they no longer have the behavior problems they arrived with.
Be willing to rehome them (the foster ones) so more can be helped even though it breaks my heart every darned time to give one up.
Worry about the fact that they live only 20 or fewer years and try not to cry too much.
Drive my entire human circle of family and friends crazy with my terrier obsession.
love love love them.

For the love of my rattie, I will spend $18 on a mesh harness for him even though I won't buy any new clothes for myself because money is tight.

not yell at her no matter how much the barking makes me crazy but instead I will bring her inside to just cuddle her.

No matter how good of a time I am having make sure I always leave to stop home and make sure they are let out and fed.

I will always make sure they are tucked in and warm in their armchair at night before I even attempt to crawl into bed.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Oh this is sooo true. Between Deb and Fredo I have about 10 inches of bed to sleep on every night.

Ditto to many of the above!  For the love of ratties I sleep in a twisted shape so they can be comfy.

I take them for walks in the cold and the heat; I go without new clothes so they have the best food and bully sticks; I drive long distances to get them to their new homes (fosters); I never eat without having several dogs waiting for a bite to drop.

And it's all worth it.  They pay me back 100x over just by being themselves.

Tell my boss I can't stay late...I have a date with my dog

Adopt him a sister so he has someone to play with that is his size

Give up a weekend in an awsome resort...and settle for a dog friendly bed and breakfast

Not throw away one toy beacuse...."they are all special to him"

Rearrange the furniture to reach that One ball the can't

Buy her the sparkling pink harness when I don't buy myself anything

Share my bed becasue the floor is so uncozy and my sheets are softer than theirs

Drive 9 hrs each way to a rat terrier meet up in Tennessee, so I can show them off, and see a bunch of other ratties, and rattie owners...I could have spent money on a cruise...But would not want to leave my babies home that long...unless I absolutely had to.

Sleep in a rattie sandwich and allow the pups to get more covers than me sometimes!
change plans, leave work early
crawl under furniture or move furnite to get their bones and toys
spend more money on their food than mine
walk PAST the burn to excersize them
get up before the sun comes up to let them go potty
let them drink our of my drinks

I agree...sooo worth it!!

repair toys so that they can rip them up again within 5 minutes
make sure they get fed on time, even though I have a bad migraine
curl up under a blanket with my ratties when one of them is sick
go out in the rain to make sure they go potty
and so many more things...

at the end of the day, despite any minor frustrations, it is so completely worth it...I can't imagine my life without those silly ratties.

sleep in an uncomfortable position so that she can have a good night's sleep.,,, Absolutely!! Get up 5 times a night because it's windy and she needs to go be sure it's wind... Bonk my head on the table retreiving stuffed animals when she can't reach them. Allow her to GO! everytime I do, rather it's an imposition to other's or not! (Sissy rode to prom this year with Shiloh on her lap! Boy, that white hair sure added something snazzy to the dress!!) Point out every other living creature out the windows of the truck for her, even slowing down or stopping altogether so that she can get a good view!

let Dixie sit on my lap and watch her favorite shows while my leg is asleep, and me not move so she is comfortable.

spend $40 on a bed for her to sleep on next to mine, (wife won't let her sleep with us in our bed).

Make sure she is fed good healthy food, even though she is still fat. ( butterball).

Get up at all times of the night to let her out so she can bark at whatever she sees or thinks she hears.

But the best thing is, is she is right by my side no matter what I do or where I go.

oh yeah and plan our vacations to where they allow "dogs".

But don't tell her she is a "dog" she won't believe you.

... let the wife call Murphy "YOUR DOG" every time he chews up her shoes. ("YOUR DOG just did [insert bad behavior here]!!!" )

... buy my wife new shoes (5 pairs and counting in the last 4 months).

... consider buying one of those things that automatically closes the door on the closet so Murphy can't get in there anymore to chew on shoes.

For the love of my Ratties, I will......

Go without so they can have the best of what they need....

Sleep squished in the corner of a queen sized bed, totally twisted and uncomfortable, so that everybody can touch me while sleeping at night...

Thank god every night for my house, my job and having the ability to afford 6 dogs on my own, pay my mortgage, taxes and bills and most of all, foster and volunteer for Ratbone, continuing to save the lives of Ratties in need...

Deal with muddy pawprints on my white carpets and furniture during the springtime and after rainstorms! It's only mud!!

Take a vacation day to be with my girl after her attack.
do without so she can have whatever she wants or needs.
go for walks when my arthritis is killing me.
go for rides if she seems bored
sleep and sit uncomfortable so that she may be..

Wow.  The stuff I know but don't act on is amazing me.   The "bad tissue" trick was a new one for me, so I couldn't save the previous shoes, but I'll give it a go - as long as I don't have to do it for each pair of my wife's shoes.  She has a LOT of shoes...

take an 8X10 picture of her to school to represent my life 8 months after her passing, even though my class mates thought I was nuts.
Still cry over her getting hit 8 months later

Talk to my mom's rattie on the phone because sometimes he needs to "talk" to his "big sister"
deal with massive amounts of rattie hair whenever I go home because i have to hug and kiss on him.

I'll continue to buy shoes for my wife as Murphy chews them up.

...and I'll continue to buy leashes, as he chews through those, too.

... and I'll relish those moments he jumps up and licks my face, and then settles down in my lap for some nice calm petting.  Too few, these.
