18-month old Rat Terrier (Maple Valley)

Reply to: comm-675960876@craigslist.org

Jackson, by name, is an 18-month old Rat Terrier. He's great with kids, fixed, loves to play and run and is the world's best snuggler. We have had him since he was a puppy so he has grown up around small children. Regrettably, we just don't have a big enough house or yard to contain so active a dog anymore. Please see the attached pictures; we are sure you will fall in love with him too.

He's pure-bred so the first $75 takes him. Reply to this post if you want more information or pictures.

Thanks!

wow...he's beautiful...seems like a sweet boy. I don't see how anyone could give up their Rattie. I had an apartment when I first got mine. It was small, not much of a yard but we walked all over anyway. She has a big yard now but is always leashed and supervised. (She likes to run away to be cute.) Anyway...we should try to find a forever home for this cutie!

Well, I try to understand why (how?) someone would do this.  Likely, there are extenuating circumstances that aren't mentioned in the ad.

The part that REALLY makes me sad is that there doesn't seem to be any concern on the part of the seller as to the home Jackson would go to.... "first $75 takes him."

Again, maybe they are screening potential owners and the ad does not mention it.  I hope.  Jackson is an awesome looking animal.

This just makes me cry!  Maybe some of it is pregnancy hormones but I know most of it is just trying to wrap my mind around why and/or how people just give up their animals.  Again... the "first $75 takes him".

Okay, this ticks me off. I have an 1100 sq. ft. house with 2 adults, 3 kids, 1 cat and 1 rattie. Our yard? I've seen postage stamps that are bigger. And yeah,,,,"First $75 takes her."? Yeah, they love their dog. Idiots.

18 months - they are nearing the end of the most rambunctious stage. If they only knew to hang on a few more months till he matures a little. All my dogs have always been better at about 2 yo. I've always said that puppy cuteness is a survival mechanism!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I JUST SAW THIS AND I AM FURIOUS! I AM EVEN MORE FURIOUS THAT THEY ARE FROM MAPLE VALLEY, THATS WHERE I LIVE! (when i am not at school, which isnt quite over with, i am in the dormd and cant have a dog, yet) i didnt even know that there was a rat terrier in maple valley. sometimes when i get on craigslist i type in rat terrier to see if anykne around breeds but havnt seen one yet.
i am just so mad!!! efing idiots. small house and yard is no reason. why did they get the dog in te first place then?

I am sorry but personally i think that when someone gets a pet they make a life long commitment to that pet and should think things through and see if it works in their life. if not they arent ready. but instead people are ignorant and do crap like this!!! ugh!

This should read:

We have had him since he was a puppy so he has grown up around small children. Regrettably, we just don't have a big enough house or yard to contain so active a dog anymore.

He was cute when he was a puppy and now he is big and we haven't worked with him so his manners might be a little rough. We didn't think about that when we bought him. Regrettably, we are too lazy to provide him the exercise he needs (ie walking him) and so we are using a small yard as an excuse.

Me again: dogs live in the moment - it is frustrating to see people give up on their dogs but having transitioned two dogs (one 2 and one 4) in the last 4 months with minimal problems into my home, maybe he is better off in another home - hopefully he finds one.

Idiots. They didn't think of this when they got him?

But the worst is "the first $75 takes him" - do they even care what kind of person his new owner will be??

I couldn't agree more - with all of you!  Don't get a pet unless you are ready to make a commitment to them ... for as long as they live!!!   Poor guy.  He looks like such a sweetie pie.  Oh- and I live in a duplex with a very small fenced backyard.  If you love your dog, you'll make time and a way to exercise them!  And if you can't or won't- then don't bring them into your life!!

Maybe there are circumstances not listed in the ad, but this does look like a case of irresponsibility.  Hopefully Jackson will find someone to love him forever the way he deserves!

Poor guy. I agree, they should think about it before get a dog. If he is so sweet I just don't understand why they want to give him up only because they don't have yard. They can take the dog to the park or somewhere in the open space for him to run around.

Isn't there a quote that goes "you can tell alot about a country by the way they treat their animals". That is pretty scary.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

wow, and just look at all the animals in shelters and roaming the streets. and the animals like in the animal precinct shot, and how people are cruel and abuse them and neglect them and fight them to the death! some people are seriously messed up! i think there should be a harsher punishment for animal cruelty and neglect! oh and fur coats illegal lol i just think its wrong! this country needs to shape up or be put in time out because its been a bad county. it reminds me of the bad tissue thread if anyone has read that, it is funny.

p.s. i am coming into the last 2 hours of the 30 hour fast. our school is having a 30 hour fast people can sign up for during our total relief week. were doing it to simulate what some individuals go through on a daily basis. and let me tell you, its not an easy thing to do...
