well after a week of waiting the little ratty we found at the pound was released, and he got to come home with us. Now the fun has begun. No problems at first, now Harlee has some real jealousy issues. I think it started last night at bed time, the lil guy was trying to find his place and any where he laid down she was not happy. needless to say eventually they found their own spots and we got some sleep, not much but some. So the jealousy continued this morning and at times it is getting worse. How long before Harlee gets over this jealousy. I can deal with potty accidents and the other little things that come with getting a new dog. we have been very careful about not ignoring harlee and make sure we are showing her a lot of love and kisses. Any words of wisdom.

Thanks

Bill and Kim

Word of caution... although you probably know this already ... don't leave them alone together unattended.
As time passes they will work things out between themselves, and it's good to allow them to do this without interfering as much as possible. Of course... common sense prevails. If you see them actually *fighting* of course step in.. but otherwise they will probably work it out in time. No set amount of time -- varies with each situation and dogs.

Bless you for adopting!

Thank you for adopting your second rattie. I haven't done that(yet), so have no valuable advise, but wanted to welcome you to the site. Harlee is your first rattie, right? What is the name of your new one?

My husband and I are looking to adopt our second Rattie and the one we have is very Dominate (male) and this little girl we are looking at getting is the Dominate dog in her home too. Her owners are giving her up because they are in the process of adopting a baby. We would like to take the little girl but we want to make sure it would be a good fit. We are going to take her for a night or two and see how Domino takes to her and if they work things out. Is the best playmate for a rattie another rattie?

Harlee and Zack seem to be best of friends now. they are even sharing their toys. there is still a few moments when one or the other gets jealouse but it doesnt last long. they case each other and have fun inside and out. so just give the two some time and they will work the pecking order.

Thank you for your help.  I love the ratties and think 2 is better than one but I am afraid that my first rattie will feel left out if I get another one.  He has been the number one dog.
