FINALLY.... after 1-1/2 years of consistent training.....

Last night I sent Bailey over 4 jumps and through a tunnel from the opposite side of the dogwalk.  In the agility environment, this is called "layering".  In other words... I ran, but I ran with the dogwalk BETWEEN me and Bailey...

Probably isn't a big deal to anyone but me ... but I was really excited about this as it's a skill we've been working on for months.  I even got a nice email this morning from our trainer telling us how "good" we looked last night!

Anyways... just wanted to share these good feelings I'm having this morning.  It feels good to see something you've trained on for many months come to fruition.

Now... whether or not we're able to do this in a real trial.. will remain to be seen!

Wahoo! Soon enough you'll be sitting in a lounge chair sipping a mint julep and just pointing to the obstacles for Bailey boy!

The deeper I get into this agility "stuff" with Bailey, the stronger our bond becomes. It truly is a team endeavor... and we're beginning to read each other's body language so very well.
When I smile at Bailey he goes crazy...
When I frown, he puts his head down.
When I put my finger in a certain direction... he goes in that direction. (teaching him to "go away" was HARD after spending months teaching him to COME... haha)
When I motion with my forefinger for him to come... he comes running and touches my finger without a word being spoken.

I think I will never own another breed of dog.... me.... who said I'd never own anything again other than a german shepherd! LOL

I hope it's ok to brag a bit this morning... but I'm truly feeling good about things and can't think of a better group of people to share these good vibes with!

I'm very proud of my little guy...

YEAH RIGHT, Gwacie! LOL  Jan Clark introduced me to mint juleps a few years ago... I had never had one.  Not sure that's the drink of choice for me.  I much prefer my cheap, screw-top wine -- Mogen David!

Nora: That's fantastic. You have every right to be pleased - with yourself and with Bailey. You've worked very hard to achieve each goal. If I were there, I'd give you a little hug and jump up and down with joy with you! Congratulations and keep us posted.

PS: You need someone to get a video clip of you two "working". I know you can't use them at a real trial, right? But maybe at practice? I want to see it!!!

I have some videos... was taped this past weekend at the trial. But... I look like a freakin' COW in these videos for some reason... even after losing lots of weight. I refuse to post the videos. :=(

Nora, that is so awesome. I bet it is so much fun for Bailey too, maybe he can sip the mint julips with you!! He deserves it.......what a good boy.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Nora that is fantastic, I know how hard it is to master the layering technique. Lazer is not quite there yet, but we are working on it. Try it out at some fun matches before you try it at a trial (at least that is what we do). It is a great feeling when they get it (it is like a light bulb goes off and they look at you with that why didn't you say so look). You are right I am a rattie nut, always said I would never own anything but a rottie, well look at me now.

Anyway congratulations to you and Bailey that is absolutely awesome.
