Hi Everyone

I'm a new member. My display name is Willy. My wife and I lost our little Jeffy last Fall. He was a fourteen year old standard rat terrier. We are now over our greiving process and are looking for another Ratty. The problem seems to be that it is extremely difficult to find standard rat terrier puppies. There seem to b an abundance of places that sell the minitures and toys but not standards which are about 23 pounds at full growth and stand about 18 to 23 inches in height. If anyone has information that could help us, we sure would appreciate it.

Thanks: Willy & Joanne

would you be interested in adopting a rescue?
www.ratbonerescues.com has tons of beautiful ratties...all the way from babies to seniors....all different sizes! Check it out. Thats where my Toa (in my avatar) came from and many people on here have adopted from them as well. They are an amazing organization.

Welcome! I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your rattie. Where are you? Have you thought about Decker ratties? They're a little bigger than standard ratties...mine are 27 and 30 lbs and 16 inches tall (but others are 18 inches tall). Are you set on a puppy? You could look into a rescue, some are still pretty young...check out ratbonerescues.com (they have 2 litters in fostercare that are ready to find homes right now. )

Ratbone Rescues has some standard size ratties. My last RBR foster was a standard and my new foster is also a standard at 16". Neither one is a puppy though.

Mystie's puppies are adorable but may be mixes. Stoli's - not sure how big they will be but Stoli looks like a small mommy.

welcome to the site, and I am sorry for your loss.

and if you want to go thru rescue, you can request a standard rattie and they will try to find the one that is a good fit for both of you....   I adopted my second rattie from the rescue, and I love him, and he's perfect fit for my family  then i have the third rattie that i got from the shelter, and he's a standard, weighing around 22 pounds and was around 7 or 8 months old, and now he's about a year old and 4 months.    I have seriously considered rehoming him.....  He needs more attention that what I can provide... but he would go thru ratbone rescues....  because i want to make sure that he goes to a forever home, not end up to a place where i got him out of...  and he's enjoying the life of being a dog.

My first rattie was my heart dog, and i had him for 8 years and his name was Willie Joe....   nothing will ever take the place of my Willie Joe....  it took me 2 years before considering another rattie.

I wish you the best of luck, and stick around.... you never know what may pop up on here rt.com.

Welcome to the site! Sorry to hear about Jeffy.
Yes, you might want to check out rat bones rescue. I'm sure they'll have few standards. Or maybe some Deckers, which are bigger than standards (My dog, Sam, in my avatar is a decker)

Welcome to the site. You'll love it here. So sorry Jeffy crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I know you guys must miss him. I hope you guys will consider adopting. There are soooooo many ratties in shelters with impending expiration dates on their dance cards. Be sure to check your local area shelters, petfinder.com, ratterrierResQ and RatboneRescue when you're ready to get that new dog to fill that big hole in your hearts. We have several members involved with rescue so be sure to keep tabs on the Rescue Forums and post an inquiry there.

Billiken: Here are some ratties listed on petfinder near (relatively) to you.

This guy, Tiny Tim, is about 2 hours away from Milwaukee (in Wheaton, IL). He is in an animal control facility which usually means euthanasia is a possibility. They don't list his size, and it's alway difficult to tell from pics. Perhaps you could contact them and inquire? They have him listed only as a small, baby, male rat terrier.

He certainly looks full of that rattie "spirit"

From Ratbone Rescues site: www.ratbonerescues.com. I know he is in Georgia, but they are very good with arranging for transports

Thunder female

2008-04-24

Location: Georgia

Thunder is a gentle boy with a huge heart. He is about 1-½ years young and 24 lbs., with a very tender disposition. He only wants to please his humans. He has mastered the dog door with ease and enjoys running in and out at his leisure, and is reliably housetrained if kept on a schedule. Thunder loves to play ball and will even bring it back a good bit of the time. He gets along great with people and with his canine foster siblings, but has not been tested with cats. He is working on the sit command, but can’t resist a wiggle when he sits, so he’s still practicing. He is working on crate training and is doing great with it. Thunder is looking for a puppy-savvy family that enjoys going for long walks or runs (he would be a good hiker), will train him on obedience skills, and give plenty of affection. He’d also like an active fur friend! To see more pictures of this darling boy, click here .

Another one from Ratbones

Hoss female

2008-04-24

Location: Alabama

Hoss is a handsome 24-lb., 1-year-old teddy bear who has a child-like innocence and enthusiasm. He was dumped at a shelter by his family when they moved. At the shelter, Hoss was taken to the euthanasia room, but when he started screaming as they laid him on the table and clung to and kissed a worker, they decided to spare his life if a rescue would take him. Ratbone did. Though shy when first meeting people, he warms up quickly. He is a happy boy who loves human interaction and soaks up love like a sponge. He reacted well when he met children, and considering his personality and the way he loves close contact with people, he’d probably love to have a family with children. Hoss is reliably housetrained if let outside on a regular schedule. He sleeps well in a crate. He barks when left home alone in a crate. Hoss gets along well with other dogs. When he met a cat, he was curious but not aggressive. Built of rock-solid muscle, Hoss has a lot of energy and would love to be somebody’s running/jogging partner; he’d be a great candidate for Dog Agility or Flyball. When inside, Hoss is content to lounge around. For more details, click here.
