I would like to know what is the correct way to tell the dog, no, to mouthing when he mouths at my daughter....   especially when she is just skipping through-out the house, or walking thru the family room, right at her heels.  my daughter is 4, will be 5 in a couple of months.......

I am working on him on the mouthing issue.... and I told my daughter, when he mouths at her, to tell him "no".  but of course a child's voice doesn't sound serious to him...  and today, i caught him doing that, and scolded him for it....   he just sat down and gives me this cutest look and gives me this expression,  " what did i do wrong?  "

he doesn't bite....  he just likes to mouth, and of course his teeth hurts the kids....  but how do i tell/teach the dog no mouthing!!

it's like he was on a hunt, and would try to play with my daughter when she didn't initiate at all to play.....

Help!

I have 2 squirt bottles...

but I plan on stocking up, put one in every room where i can just grab them when i need to use it.

Kasey is no problem.... all i have to do is pick it up and he straightens up quick.... but Indy.... well,  i just gotta give him time and it too shall pass....   he just takes longer to learn....

Yes... the squirt bottle works.

Also you can try giving your puppy something else to put in his mouth besides your hand. When you pet him or play with him and he takes your hand in her mouth, gently offer her a chew toy and continue to pet him. He'll learn that hands are not for chewing, but they're great for ear scratches and belly rubs. If he insists on mouthing and biting you instead of the toy, go back to the squirt bottle.

My vet recommended water pistols from Wal-Mart toy department. I kept six scattered around the house. I aimed right for the face with Button. Button would nibble our toes late night, too. We used the water pistols for both behaviors and they stopped pretty quick. Zipper has never really mouthed or nibbled toes, even though she was still a puppy of 5-6 months when we adopted her. She probably had not had much human contact and would just not have thought of doing either.

that sounds like something i am going to have to do cause they like to nibble on our toes and Penni likes to pull at you pants when you are walking, standing or just sitting..... Bleu just like to mouth a little to hard.... should i also do that when he gets to rough with Penni cause i dont want him to hurt her since she is so small?

If a firm NO and redirecting him with a favorite toy doesn't work, I'd use the water squirt for all nibbling/biting behaviors. We used Bitter Apple spray for gnawing on furniture. Throw pillows on furniture I just had to give up on, sadly, because they are just too much like stuffed toys and Button has always tried to play with them and chew the corners off! Can't guard them them 24/7.
