She needs to learn "come" but even then you will have to be very careful with her off leash. I just don't let mine go other than the backyard or fenced dog park. My rattie needs to learn come (I've only had her 2.5 weeks). I saw a dog whisperer where they made a game of it. The dog (a lab) was looking for family members - they would each call him to them and would get a treat when he came to them. I think it is alot of repetition and follow through. I taught my aussie to come by using a long line, call once and then make it happen. My husband and I also practiced come with her back and forth with treats, sometimes she would get one and sometimes not, she loved running between us.

Welcome! Check out the post pinned in the Training Forum on "recall" training.  Still would never trust her off leash anywhere near a road but teaching recall is a good idea.
