I've been reading about fish oil supplements on other posts.  Sounds like something I want to give my dogs.  BUT....my question is, is it the same fish oil tablets that people take?  Can I buy it in a people store for people, but give it to my dogs?  And if so...what is the dosage to give them?

I guess that is more then 1 questiong!!!!!!!     thanks!!

I was wondering about that too...the ones I have (for me) are these HUGE gel tabs.

I have been emailing a breeder back and forth who had some good information she shared with me lemme find it....

"The 3V Free Form Liquid ... is not a MUST. It's just what I like best. I know the quality is the highest possible ... and it's EASY ... since it comes in a pump. I used to buy mine from a veterinary dermatologist ... but I just found out that the veterinary oral surgeon sells it too ... and she's a lot closer to my house ... so that's where I'll be buying it from now on.

You can also go to GNC ... or a vitamin store ... and purchase human grade Omega 3 & 6 fatty acid gelcaps. Make sure you get BOTH 3 & 6. The combination, has shown in studies, to be more beneficial than just one or the other. For a mid-sized Rattie ... take one gel capsule ... cut off the tip ... and squeeze the contents onto Toa's food. If he eats twice a day ... do one cap per meal. If he eats only once a day (like my dogs do) ... do 2 caps in his meal."

so, I guess that means yes, you can buy the human stuff...but use it as a liquid? I found the liquid kind ( salmon oil) at Petco and they LOVE it. I dont know much about it, just starting out using it, but thought I would share the info! HOpe someone else has more info!

I get mine from Seapet online. I get the one with the Vitamin E supplement. I has really helped my dogs.

Seapet is great. If you buy the human tabs you can actually just cut them open and squeeze them on the food but the pump is more convienient
Mary........ You should actually supplement Omega 3 only in general. Most foods have enough Omega 6 in them and if you add extra you throw the balance way off. Some foods have Omega 3's in them to but becuase they are so unstable they don't hold up well and really don't count for anything. If you check out the post I put up and also dogfoodproject.com, it will explain the whole issue with balancing the Omega 3 & 6. Try to also find one that has Vit E added for stability. Be careful with one's that have added A and D, these are great but if you give higher doses you can overdose on those after awhile and they can cause overdose.

I use the fish oil or salmon oil gelcaps and used to do the cut and squeeze method...until one day when I dropped a gelcap on the floor and Junebug grabbed it and ate it. I thought what the heck, so now I just give them each a whole gelcap. Can't get more convenient than that.

Agreed.   I also use the Seapet,  it is very economical too.  I buy the 16oz size, which is 96 teaspoons.  Lucky gets a half tsp and Oscar gets a quarter, so it lasts about 4 months.  It has no smell and they both like the taste.

I just ordered the 8oz Ski and I was wondering how long it stored? I didn't want to get to much and have it spoil. I got the oil with Vit E...Jeter will get the normal dose for 12lbs but Jack will get 3-4 times the amount for 14lbs. How long can you store it and do you think next time the 16oz would be okay to get?
