before you decide to lick, itch and nibble every spot on your body. I swear as soon as we all get into bed and it's quiet you hear SLURP, SLURP, SLURP, then comes the itching which shakes the whole bed then she does that little nibble with just her front teeth so you hear the clatter of that then she has to get up arrange her covers like she is digging, spin around 3-4 times then FINALLY lays down and lets out a big sigh and sleeps while we sit there wide awake starting at her.

Are you talking about the dog? My wife says I do this but, it's not letting out a big sigh at the end that annoys her!!!

HAHA!  This is totally ACE!  He does the little nibble with ONL:Y his front teeth and the itching thing then turns around several times and then FINIALLY GOES TO SLEEP!  I love my little man but it sure takes him forever to get comfortable!   lol  But when he does get comfortable he lets out a sigh JUST LIKE I DO!  Its kind of funny because sometimes we do it at the same time and several times at the same time throughout the night.....too cute!

My babies are crated at night, but Button sometimes does this (or used to) on the sofa when she would come sit on/by me.  I just hate when dogs do their "Personal grooming" around me.  So from day one,  I would shake her (if on my lap) until she stopped, put my hand between what she was biting/licking and her mouth (if beside me) so she couldn't get to it, or just flat put her on the floor and refuse to let her do that in my lap.  Well she turns four in January........ OMG, I just realized tomorrow is her birthday!!!!!!!  Anyway, back to my story.   Now when she's on/by us, she dashes off the chair/sofa to do her grooming in the floor.  So funny.  She'll be sound asleep and dart off the chair like someone stuck her in the butt with a needle!  These dogs are so smart they can even be taught where to do personal grooming.

The slurping by far is the worst and when the two of them go at it at the same time it's just grooooosssss!!!!

Toby is guilty of this one too. Sometimes I get so mad at him because we have been laying in bed for an hour watching TV and then once the TV goes off because HE WAS SLEEPING...lick lick lick. scratch scratch scratch. Then the BIG SIGH and I know he is going to sleep. Unless I yell before the scratching and then I will just hear the sigh and he's asleep.

Just toooo funny that so many do the same thing.

Casey dog and I have a good understanding you might say. He does do all of the slurpin, and turning. But all i have to do is say "stop" or clear my throught and he knows to knock it off and go to bed. It was funny, the first time Thom was snuggling with Casey and he was slurpin away.and couln't get situated.(I was destracted on the computer or something) and didn't even have to look at the dog, i just said stop. Thom thought I was talking to him, but Casey know what I was talking about. He knows all the SLURPS, and scratches...DRIVE ME CRAZY! So he curled up and ploped down to sleep. Silly dog.

You have two hands, you might as well have two ratties....right?

At bedtime, Zoey lays out froggy style on her belly, cleans her teeth, washes her face then washes her hands BEFORE she can go to sleep. After almost 7 years, Im use to it and the damp spot in the bed!

Bogie doesn't do this..he curls up as close as he can get under the covers but, Poncho (terrier mix) does..he drives me crazy with his itching..I've bought shampoo from the vets office for dry, itching skin, give him vitamins and he still does it.

If I am ready to go to bed before Charlie is, he zips and zooms on the bed while I am reading, for about 30 min. LOL..But if he's ready to go to bed, he goes into the bedroom and barks @ the bed b/c he's too little to jump in it. So I put him in the bed, and if he's dead tired, he'll go to sleep alone...but if not, he whines for me to lay with him, and when he falls asleep, I can get back up...haha

Wow! It's not just us! We honestly had no idea that other people went through this.  Our Yaz does the digging to get under the covers then darts out, spins around and around growling at her nubbin. She bites the nubbin, licks the bum, chews on her legs, licks the blankets, so on and so forth. We have learned to just wait it out. It usually takes about 10-15 min. as long as the cat leaves her alone. If the cat gets involved it can go on indefinitely. Oh well......we love her too much for it to matter.

Rascal doesn't do this, he snuggles right in there and gets cozy. However, I laughed out loud reading your descriptions of the nightly events. If you're ever in a bad mood, just come to this site to read about the adventures of owning a rat terrier.
