Preheat oven 450    (4 servings)

4 medium baking potatoes (about 1 pound)

Peel and cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch strips

Soak in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain and dry well between towels.

Toss the potatoes with 2 tbls olive oil.

Spread on baking sheet and bake turning several times until golden brown, 30-40 minutes.

Turn onto paper towels and drain.

Sprinkle with salt, paprika or favorite spices.

I've gotten some compliments on these and they are really tasty without frying..

It does say you can do this with Rutabagas and turnips. I love this with sweet potatoes, they were soo sweet. Have you tried sweet potatoe hash browns?

Yep the mayonais/horse radiWow! Sorry I took so long! I can't keep up with the site! All I do is slice, then drain the tomaotes. Coat them in bread crumbs, spray the pan, and the tomato slices,  bake at 350, flip about 15/20 minutes. Yum! Not quite the same as 'Fried Green Tomatoes". but close. I don't do eggs, or the other stuff  you would typacly do with 'fried' food, cuz you don't need too.The mayonaise/horseradish dip is still madatory.

It is YOU !!   I loved Jessica Tandy and her story telling voice throughout the movie.  Maybe that's why I liked Shawshank redemption with the narration done by Morgan Freeman, I love that in good movies. Oh, did we get off the food subject? Oh Well...Welcome there nandana

Oh, I haven't watched that forever. I about wet my pants laughing at Shirley McClaine's character. What was her name in the movie? Reeva? I love characters like hers. Do you think that's the best movie she's ever done?

No, Her name was Ouiser "weezer" Boudreaux! My fave line from that movie is from Olympia "Claree Blelcher" Ducacas! ( I hope I spelled that right!)  She said," Ya know what they say, if don't have anything nice to say, come sit by me!" Kinda paraphrasing here....
Yes , we hijacked this thread, but is still all about cooking and the South! So I think it is o.k. (Remember the armadillo cake!?! 'nough said!)
