If you are looking to rescue, petfinder.com is always a good place to start. I know there are others on here more knowledgeable as far as Ratbones goes. Best of luck to you!!

Thank you for your reply Colleen.  I did search petfinder.  I found a beautiful girl but they wanted $376, would have to ship her from TN and I have to commit without meeting her.

I will keep looking  until I can find one less than 5 hours away so I can meet her.  Do you know how to contact someone who is on the member's map? Kate

I got my rescue from Ratbone Rescues.  They do a wonderful job of making sure you end up with the right dog.  They also will help with transportation and the adoption fee is $150.  They dog come spayed/neutered, with vet records, microchipped, and many are house trained.  Here is one that is in New York.  There is only one in MA, but it is a male, and you specifically said female.

Little Lily female

2007-10-7

Location: New York

Here's a beautiful little girl who will dance when you call her name. Little Lily is 2 years old and weighs around 12 lbs. Shortly after being rescued, she was discovered to have distemper, which she survived and she now tests negative for the disease. But the ordeal was difficult for her, and she needs a quiet home where her stress can be kept at a minimum, with people who will understand and support her if she has any future aftereffects. Little Lily is a very loving dog who gives kisses, lies in your lap, and is happy sleeping with you at night, but she can be skittish with new people. This happy girl loves cats and greatly enjoys the company of other canines. She also loves kids but (possibly because of the distemper) she has a quirk where she will sometimes bite at the air, so she probably should not be placed with very young children. She may run if spooked, so she does need a securely fenced yard. Little Lily is still working on perfecting her housetraining skills, working hard on this and making good improvement, but she needs loving, consistent reinforcement. Do you have what it takes to be a loving parent to Little Lily? To see more pictures of Lily, click here.

This dog is okay with:

cats

dogs

kids

Welcome to the site, Kate. Keep looking. You'll find the right dog soon, I'm sure. There sure are a lot that need to be adopted/rescued. My youngest is a rescue posted on Petfinder.com. She was in a kill shelter with only 2 days left. Zipper was 5 mos. old and we drove over 5 hours to go get her near Texarkana. They held (which they won't usually do) her when I said how far I was coming from. Don't think they really thought I was gonna show up. I fooled them. We love her to death and she's now 1.5 yrs. old.

Hi Daisy's Mom,

Daisy is my Parent's rat terrier's name!!!!

Thanks for your support.  Actually Allie is the one I called about that costs $376 from Amer. Lab Rescue.  They don't have a shelter in CT (and yes I can drive to CT) they just connect people to dogs that are in their foster care system.  Allie is in TN and I would have to commit without seeing her.  I am not comfortable with that since I want to make a lifelong commitment to the pet I adopt.

Happy New Year!

Kathryn

Kate,

I will continue to keep my eyes open for you. Stick around, there is a lot of good support here. I found this forum when I was looking to adopt. I have had Ms. Mocha for about 6 weeks now. I got her from Ratbone Rescues.

Kate:

This little girl is listed as a terrier mix, but I see A LOT of rattie in her. Also, listed as a "baby", but she doesn't look that young?

More About Sandy

I'm a cute little girl who loves to play with toys and run in a fenced yard. I was too pushy for the other puppy in my home though so now I need to find someone new to live with. I've been around teenage children and I love to just be with you!

Hi Kate,

I just saw a thread titled Newbie in Connecticut . They are looking for a home for a toy rattie. I just posted a reply to them so it should be bumped up close to your thread. The person lives in Connecticut. Maybe that would work out for you.
