Here is a link that describes and shows by picture the determining factors in whether a rattie is a Type A (long legs) or Type B (shorter legs).

Haha, I like their description of RT's....

"They are an attractive dog with a bouncy yet sophisticated and concerned attitude with sparkling sincere eyes. The Rat Terrier has the expression of being curiously concerned, somewhat worried and seriously inquisitive."

Ha ha ha - that is cute and mostly accurate. Daisy certainly has the most expressive doggie face I've ever seen

Well, it's a tie then - between all our ratties

That pic of him in the upper corner of your avatar, Nora, is one of my absolute favorites. I could just KISS him silly

(You know I'm kidding, right?)

I haven't taken any pics of him in awhile.... I should have taken some pics while he was being crated for two weeks... so everyone could see his tonsils!

That was very helpful - Jack is definately a Type B Mini

The only thing I objected to was considering a full tail a "fault" - I understand the concept for showing a dog, but I just could not do that to a baby! Jack has a full tail & I just love the way it stands straight up and curls in a semi-circle when he is happy...

I don't know why the NRTA says it is a fault.  Here is what the UKC website says, and the curl is perfect too!

Tail

The tail is set on at the end of the croup. A docked or natural bob tail is preferred, but a natural tail is not a fault. Docking should be between the second and third joint of the tail. he natural tail is thick at the base and tapers toward the tip. When the dog is alert, the tail is carried in an upward curve. When relaxed, the tail may be carried straight out behind the dog.

    Faults: Bent tail; ring tail.

Thanks for clearing that up, Tracey.  Being new to the breed I was really wondering what Type A & B meant.

This may be a silly question but I noticed on that link that there are toys and minis. What is the difference?

A toy is 10 and under and a mini is 11 pounds to 16 or 18 pounds. Then comes the standard size.
