I have been trying to get Daisy used to wearing a collar. She is 8 wks old now. I have a nylon one. It seems to itch her a whole lot or is that just her getting used to wearing it? Would a leather or some other type be better? She fights tooth and nail for me not to put it on her. Same thing with the leash. She really fights me on it. Then she fights me again when I try to take the leash off of her. I think that's from not wanting to come back inside. She loves to play outside with the big dogs and run off leash. That's the only place I let her off leash to run around. I've tried giving her a treat each time, but sometimes she isn't interested in the treat. What should I do?

My advise is to ignore her struggles. Don't try and reassure her or anything while you're putting on either the leash or the collar. Just do it very matter of factly. She's very young and it's just new to her. She'll forget about it shortly.

Should I just leave the collar on all the time or gradually get her used to it?

Chrissy doesn't like wearing hers all the time in the house, but she knows she can't go outside without it. So for now that is what we are doing. I would eventually like her to wear it more so when we travel she will have her tags on.

Welcome and congRats on your pup. Ratty didn't like it when he was first made to wear a collar at 8 wks. but he had to so he wouldn't get stepped on, it had a bell. Now his tags jingle so we still hear him. She'll get used to it. He wears his all the time and gets very upset if you take it off of him. If he has a bath he wants it right back on.

We put pepper's collar on her right when we got her. She scratched at it, her first couple got pretty shredded but they still worked fine. She's like, "what do you think you're doing?" when we take it off of her.

Shadow loves his collar. She will get used to it... just make sure it isn't too loose as I almost lost my baby due to him choking on a loose collar. Don't mean to put a negative spin on it, but just make sure it is properly fitted. This is a new thing for her and she will get used to it... like when you try to put a shirt on her... they have to get used to things...

Both my girls hate wearing their collars. They scratch incessantly when they're on. I don't make them wear them around the house and yard, which is fenced. But they have to wear them everywhere else, along with their harnesses.
