| I don't use anything prescribed or holistic for these purposes. Are you considering it for your rattie? Is he in need of something to help calm him down? |

| I'm not sure I'd use it, but I was thinking about it. Just for long car trips, he shakes the entire time and isnt himself for a couple hrs after. I've read a couple posts about people using tranquilizers, maybe not exactly but something prescribed by the doctor. I don't think I personally would do that, but if something like a treat would make him feel a little better id consider it. |

| Benadryl can sometimes help calm them, you could check with your vet. Have you tried crating while traveling? It can sometimes help them feel more secure. |

| he has a seat belt harness and sits in the seat next to me. ive tried putting him in the back he spends the entire time clawing at the leather trying to get to me. he runs and claws to get away anytime a crate is in site. he just spends the entire ride trying to get in my lap. but its so dangerous, and hard to stear lol |

We drug our dogs. LOL. We do use vet tranquilizers when there is going to be a houseful, like Christmas Eve, so they can sleep through it instead of hearing everything and barking and scratching. Alice isn't to good with her jumping and nipping and with kids where their food is mouthlevel to her, I think it's asking for trouble. Other than events, if they are to wired I put them right out in the backyard and really get them hyper and let them run it off, I have never tried these products. |

| LJ is nutty sometimes too. I try to keep him away from my neices and nephews, not that he hurts them its just the jumping, sometimes he does accidentally. I work very hard at training him not to jump on people, but he can't help it. He's very easy to excite, and very easy to scare. It's funky. If a bee buzzes by the window he goes into attack mode and will not stop for an hr. But if you drop a book next to him he runs to hide and cower. His personality does't bother me any, I love him to pieces. But if something like this could help every once in a while, and its safe... id do it. I wouldnt want him in a coma every day or anything. part of the reason i love him so much, is because he loves me so much. his jumping and excitement makes me feel good! |

| i actually just drove from fl to ny and then back again for christmas, with my two ratties... we used to have a hard time in the car, with vomiting or shaking, and that's been better lately... but it's such a long trip, i was worried. we used dramamine, i think it was 10 mg. it worked great, they didn't have much of an appetite the next day but they handled the trip like champs and i didn't see any other effects besides not wanting dinner.... and that could have been more out of excitement to see all the new things like snow and deer poo and new doggies! just make sure to ask your vet what the right dosage is. |

Hey, I've used the Rescue Remedy for myself, and I think it really worked (can be used by humans as well as animals). I picked up the spray at the local Vitamin Shoppe, should be easy to find at most health food stores. I let Russ lick the spray off my hand a couple times, seemed to have no ill effects- he's pretty mellow naturally anyways. I don't know about spaying it directly into his mouth, some dogs don't like that spray sound- but you could spritz it into his water. |

| Ratty hates to ride, on long trips he will settle down after a couple of hours but he shakes and pants like crazy. He used to love to ride laying around my neck like a stole. But once he got too big and I had to put him in my lap or the floor or a crate he started to panic everytime he has to go out of the driveway. He jumps in the car quick enough but doesn't want to ride just gets in and out. I would love it if I could take him on car rides and all but it makes him so nervous that I just stopped taking him. He doesn't mind sleeping until I get home. On long car rides I just take his bed and blankie and after a while he has worn himself out shaking and panting that he just goes to sleep. If you find that these work let me know and I'll give it a whirl. |

Smokey and Bandit love to ride in the truck. My son has a King Charles Spaniel who goes all to pieces even being put in a car. He puts her little crate in the back and she goes right in and is fine. |

I've used Rescue Remedy on myself too. Back when I was having those episodes of being PMS crazy. I think it helped me too, but tastes pretty bad. A coworker told me about it and she uses it on her dogs when they are going to be in a stressful situation, like going to the vet's or groomer's. |

| I use something called "Quiet Moments." It's a chewable tablet like some of those. I use it mostly on Rosie...she's terrified of loud noises (thunder, fireworks), and fights the tranquilizer the vet gave her. But this seems to work for her. |

I also just took a long trip with Trixi from Virginia to Florida and back. She has taken shorter trips with us before (2 hours) and she shakes and vomits the whole time.....this time we asked our vet about it...he perscribled ACE....its like a doggie vikatin i guess? We gave her only half a tablet every 8 hours....he gave us 5 pills and it cost 8 dollars...she was WONDERFUL on the trip there....she was still awake and alert some of the time...but enjoyed the ride instead of being anxious and vomiting. She would look out the window, and even growl at another big dog she saw...she wasnt COMPLETELY OUT OF IT i guess is what im trying to say... then while we were in FL we took a couple hour or more long trips and DIDNT give her the meds, just to see what would happen...i had them in my purse...she was COMPELTELY GREAT!....no shaking, no vomiting.... I think the ACE for the trip there helped her to feel relaxed in the car and relaize that its ok.... we didnt use it at all on the way home from FL...she was a champ! |

| I've used the Bach rescue remedy drops for my cats. My sister had 3 rescue cats that were fighting after she brought them inside. Started putting about 3 drops in their water a day and she swears by them. Anyway, I got a couple of rescue cats (Mama and Baby Kitty) and started giving it to them because they had been through so much and were traumatized. (poor things!) Anyway, they seemed to help them calm down a lot!! Never tried on Mikey and Alice though. Would like to hear if anyone has tried on their dog... |

| Yes I used some stuff from the vet when I had hunting dogs. Long Trips in even a large Truck Crate can get them sick or agrivated. |
