Big Kahuna Joshua, turns 16 today and we are having a luau at sunset! Bring your ratties (and other special friends) and join us! Tropical attire essential and bring your silliest mood too. We intend to have a blast! I hand made all decorations, decorated a rather silly looking cake with blue frosting, brown sugar for sand and completed with an old dolly of mine that I made into a hula girl just for the occasion and little palm trees too! I seriously had way too much fun with this project! When I'd finished the cake Josh looked at me and said you are the wierdest person I've ever met... and then gave me a great big, warm hug! (I may be weird but my kid definitely appreciates his momma's weirdness! LOL)
I am almost totally done. Baking a ham and "dirty peg legs and pineapple" this morning and then I'll be able to dance the hula along with everyone else instead of being stuck in the kitchen! Woohoo for planning early! Everyone seriously gave me a hard time about these decorations 2 weeks ago... you're soooo early mom! Yeah, but! 2 emergency room visits later I don't look so foolish now NOT running out of time, now do I? hehe
You guys gotta try this dirty peg legs recipe (perfect for those finicky little boys who won't eat anything good for them!)
2 pkgs chicken legs washed and patted dry with a paper towel, tossed in a baking pan with 1/4 cube of margarine cut into slices and tossed over chicken legs... and every spice in your spice cabinet! I usually use onion powder, basil, thyme, oregano, bay, parsley and garlic powder. cover with foil and bake 45 minutes, remove foil and bake additional 15 minutes until golden brown. (spices turn dark and "dirty looking" during the last few minutes giving it that just rolled in the grass look
can add orange slices and pineapple chunks for a more tropical flare... or beautiful bell peppers for a fiesta!
Perfect for pirate parties, halloween or any occasion you're feeding a bunch of boys!
I bought whale crackers, oyster crackers, club crackers, tortilla chips and maui onion potato chips to serve with dips, I made an enormous crab salad and to drink, gosh, I sincerely hope everyone likes tropical punch! I bought 2, 3 litre bottles of it and David bought another gallon!
I think I'm far more excited than the birthday boy! LOL
(Oh and shhhh... I got him a bamboo Pan Flute! It's super cool!) I'll get pictures of course, so lucky you all! You get to see all of this twice, without kids and later, with kids!
Thanks for putting up with me, I can't help but want to share with all of you, after all, you are family too!
P.S. Cheryl, I sincerely hope I have done justice to the true meaning of Aloha, my friend... and fervently wish you were closer... shoulda heard my conversation with the gods about the spelling! Talk about a leap of faith! Now if I didn't spell correctly Cheryl, you HAVE to tell me, otherwise I'll continue on, offending unknowingly!
Will post again after the festivities end (Checkout is 11 am tomorrow!) |
