This little girl found her legs and has been sprinting through the house like a mad woman. Sliding into doors, still running into the glass legs of my dining room table, and yes, she has even made it up and down the stairs. Scared for her little life, I was told that I should keep her on a leash so she can be near me. So I went and did just that. From the moment I put this collar on her, she has been shivering and won't walk but a few inches. Is this normal? I am so afraid she will hurt herself if I don't but I feel like meany now. What to do??? |

Spirit sounds like quite the "free spirit" LOL!!! You are right to want to put a collar and leash on her, both to get her used to it and to have you be able to keep her near you. Regarding her shivering/apparent "fear" of the collar and/or leash....you'll have to ignore it. Do not cuddle, cajole, or otherwise engage her when she's acting this way. What you have to do is just go about your business with what I call "matter of fact" attitude. Just assume the stance of "Hey, little girl, this is what it is and that's the end of that." No need to plead or be stern ... just "be". I promise she'll come around, but it's important she not sense any "vibes" coming from you that you're concerned or worried, else you'll just reinforce that there IS something to be concerned or worried about. Try it for a while and let us know how it goes. Good luck and WE WANT PICTURES LOL!!!! |

| It always takes a while for pups to get used to the collar. Soon she will be demanding it, as my Maggie does when we go somewhere. She only wears one when we go out now. |

| I put a collar on Amos the day he came to our house. He never paid any attention to it. He acted crazy on the leash the first few times but seems ok with it now. Hope Spirit settles down for you soon. |

| Interesting... Zoey has a collar, but she only wears it when we use a leash. (Which is never, LOL) I dont see the need for her to wear one 24/7. Besides, I think it bugs her... I dont blame her, it'd bug me too |

| I hardly ever keep Buster's collar on all the time but I pray for Buster when it comes Christmas time... My girlfriend has bought him cloths... I don't see him getting to used to that. Anywho if you want to her keep the collar on all the time I would just make sure its not to tight and let her get used to it. |

She needs to get used to it, just leave it on (when you're there with her) and be "matter of fact" about it like Tracey said. Also, be sure it's not tight but also be sure it's not so loose that she could get her lower jaw caught in it! |

| She seems to be adjusting. Spirit was so funny tonight I almost didn't mind she had an accident in my DINING ROOM! But first she is starting to recognize her name when called and the leash thing....OMG! After two days we let her off and she would only go but so far. But once she realized she was free she was back to sliding into walls! But she was still easier to control. Thanks so much for all your advice. I love this place. |
