So we will be fliying Mocha home soon (I know, I know this is all that I have been posting about).  I was thinking about getting her a fleece blanket and having my husband and I sleep with it for a couple of days, and then mail it to the foster mom so that she can put it in her crate for the flight home.  I was thinking that she would be able to pick up our scents and maybe not see us as strangers when she gets here.   I have a blanket that I took with me when I picked Vino up from the breeder, and to this day when we get that blanket out, he has to lay on it and snuggle with it.  You can see him get excited when it comes out of the closet.  So, do you all think this is far fetched????

Same here, I'm no expert, but I cannot see anything bad that could come out of it.

Cool idea, I don't think a little early bonding can hurt. Good luck!

Well, we are still waiting for our home visit. Turns out, there isn't anyone in my area that is available to do a home visit, so they asked if I knew anyone willing to volunteer. I gave them the number of a lady that I know who rehabilitates wildlife and returns them to their habitat. She is more than willing to volunteer for my case. I think I am going to volunteer with Ratbone for home visits, because if there isn't anyone in the area, we need someone. I would hate for someone not to get a dog, or to give up on a dog because they can't find someone for a home visit. So, I think we still have a little time before sweet baby can come home.

I think that is a great idea...and a thoughtful one too. When my hubby drove to Illinois to pick up Daisy, I had sleep in an old tshirt for a few nights before he left, so he could take it and bring her back home with it so she would "know" me when she got here

having something to acclamate to sounds like a great idea, but you might want to check with the airline she is flying on to see what if anything they allow in the crate. Things may have changed, but when we checked animals that had stop overs in Hawaii, most crates just had newsprint and/or puppy pads and nothing else.

I hope you can use the blankey, I think that would be a nice way to give her something to snuggle with. Hope I'm not being the "wet Blanket" here. I really want her to fly with her new fleece blanket. But just check it out first.

Now remember I've not shipped dogs in the last 15 years so I may be totally off base.

I'm also going to say a big YEA YOU!! for volunteering to be a home site visit volunteer. You are so right, if there is no one in the area, it would be great for you to be able to help.

I hope Mocha is home soon!!!!

That's an interesting idea. When I send my fosters home, I usually put a blanket or towel in with them that has the "smell" of our home on it so they will a familiar scent with them and hopefully won't be as frightened on the transport. Your idea is similar except you're trying to make Mocha feel more comfortable when she's arrives, which is admirable as well. Why not give it a try? Have you applied to adopt the beautiful Ratbone Rescues Mocha from Indiana? If so, she's a beauty!
