Females are usually more mature with the second or third heat. that is the best time to breed for the first time if all tests are normal.

What are the signs that they are pregnant? And how old are the males usually before they can actually go through the necessary steps to get the female pregnant? My male right now is only about 4 months old, but he's definitely trying!

Some get morning sickness, some don't. Vet can check them early and tell. Males can, some of them by four months, most can by six months. They will all try unles you get him neutered.

i think 4 months old is too young for a male to breed they can sometimes still do it, but i usually wait till there one year old at least. at 1 year old they are pretty well grown to full size maybe not quit filled out yet but most problems will have already shown up. patellas etc. i have a little male he is 11 weeks old today and he already tries but he is not even dropped yet. so trying is something they will always do even if there neutered. he may be ready by the time your females comes back in for her second heat. 6 months from the time of her first heat. by then he will be at least 10 months old. good luck.
