Hi all!

Buddy has been a marathon chewer, destroying (completely) an average of one toy a day (and that's on a good day):

DIDN'T MAKE THE CUT:

• any plush/canvas/nylon/cotton-filled toys

• ropes of ANY kind

• tennis ball-ish toys of ANY kind

WINNERS:

• Nylabones (the very hard ones)

• Kongs

• a super-tough hollow bone (to fill with penut butter, etc.)

I would love to know what some of the group's favorite toys are...Buddy is impatiently tapping his paw, eager for your responses so we can run out and get him something that will keep him busy!

Thanks! Have a great day!

Bob likes the Cuz ball I got him. It is a red rubber ball that had horns and feet when I first gave it to him. It is now dehorned and footless, but he loves chasing it. I also got him an orange cat that is made out of similar materials. It still squeaks and it sounds like a flock of geese. He loves to squeak it and to fetch it.

Aka loves his toys and has since birth from what Sara was telling me. Right now his current favorites are:

Plush Purple Hippo with squeaker in it tummy
Squirrel from AKC (well made too) squeaker in its tail
stuffed green Owl squeaker in tummy
his beef tendon that started out 12 inches long and is now down to about 3 inches!
mini stuffed turtle that squeaks
an old pair of socks tied together with a knot
and any type of paper he can get his little paws on!!!

My girls de-stuff soft toys, chew tennis balls to bits and destroy all their toys except firm rubber toys. Just don't waste my money on anything else anymore. Ropes work for awhile until they start ripping off threads eating them. Then I take them away.

Zipper was a stray and just doesn't play with toys at all. But she will chew nylabones like a fiend.

Button's favorite is toy her puppy Kong. She is exhilarated by the ricocheting they do. She'll play fetch with it or anything you toss until she drops from exhaustion! She likes the mid-sized soccer ball (7") we kick around the yard. She hasn't really learned to nose it around, so she punctures those trying to pick them up. We've gone through three now. lol

tauney has all kinds of toys. she really doesnt have a favorite. she has a little rubber doggie with a squeaker in it she tore the squeaker out so now i have to throw that away. right now my son has been sick and when he does not throw his tissues away tauney shreds them to death.

I have found Plush toys that are made with out stuffing are awesome for rita to "kill"
and she also has the remains of a hedgehog that has squeaky feet it is now basically tuned inside out and barely recognisableas to what it was after rita customizing her toys

she loves any ball which a ihave to keep hidden or she will drive me nuts ...and when i am buying a new toy for her i look for the "floppy factor"

"The 'floppy factor'"...that's hilarious! Buddy definitely likes the plushies, or anything cotton-filled...but he goes through them so quickly, it's hardly worth it. Thanks for all of your feedback...very helpful and should save us a few bucks, too!

Welcome to the site Buddy & family! Our monster Shiloh, is a toy destroyer too. When she was little we spent money on toys. Lot of good that did us, she won't play with the non destructable ones, just looks at them, gives you the 'look' and leaves them to sit by themselves. She far prefers anything out of the bathroom trash (anyone else have all the trash cans in the house on tables?) the kids stuffed animals... get this one, I just can't fathom! She will chew the eyes out of any and all stuffed animals and then give them to me. I had a whole little basket full of eyes at one point, finally threw them away cause I had no clue what I'd ever use them for! Sarah, (anyone with little skin kids) if you read this, don't throw the kids old stuffed animals away.. eventually they will weed through and keep certain ones, the rest, box up for the doggies and give them out two at a time. Then you don't feel so guilty throwing something away, it's already served it's purpose twice by that point!
Again, welcome to you and Buddy, he has an expression that says he's all about fun! I hope you enjoy the site and look forward to getting to know you and Buddy better.

OOOH Angie! I'm over here waving my hand high in the air on this one! I have finally broken down  and got mom a trashcan that has the foot pedal with closed lid. It is heavy enough that Aka can't get it to open even though he is now at 8 pounds! But all the other trash baskets and things are up out of his little mouth range!

I'm all with ya on that one!  All of our trash cans have lids.  ANd the one that doesn't...  well, I'm constantly putting that trash back away!  I never throw anything "gross" in there, so usually it's just papers strewn across the room repeatedly.  I also have to keep the toilet lid down.  Apparently toilet water is also a great temptation!  (For both drinking and splashing...)

Oh!  And Rowdy's favorite "real" toys?  His bad cuz and the rubber cat (like Pam's- if you get the medium size ones the squeaker isn't as annoying), a soft rubber mint-scented dog bone thing, and his Petsmart loofah dogs, although those do get their innards removed after a while.

Have you seen the stuffed animal toys with velcro'ed in squeakers?  We have a little snake that has one squeaker and the nice part is that the squeaker is just in a little velcro flap.  Easily replaceable and I have a supply...  Rowdy loves it!  They make other stuffed animals that have like 3 or 4 squeakers in them.  I like it because I don't need to have replacement stuffed animals anymore.  Just replacement squeakers.

Oreo likes plushies, squeakies, rattles, just about anything that moves, also a huge bone that is bigger than she is, it's so funny to watch her with it, so far our best luck has been with the bone.

Give Buddy an empty plastic soda bottle. Then put in some ear plugs. Free toy, just throw it away when he's done.(Or you can't stand the noise anymore)

Sonic loves sqeaky toys--he doesnt chew them up just squeaks them.  Sydney will take the squeaky toys from him, chew holes so they do not squeak and then drop them back by him.  (she is our little brat)  Sydney favorite toys are stuffed animals -- loves them until there is no stuffing in them and then will not touch them again.

I'm a Newbie here and so glad I found this site!  We have our first RT and she will be 9 mos. on Sept. 28th.  Her name is Princess Tiger Lily (named by our daughter) and we call her Princess.

We have found raquetball balls to be a GREAT toy for her!  She hasn't been able to put a hole in it, it's a smooth rubber ball and very bouncy!   She loves to chase it and sort of brings it back.  She makes a little game of giving it back, but eventually does because she loves to chase it.

I look forward to reading the different posts and learning more about our Ratty!!

Hi Ann and Princess Tiger Lily! Glad you joined us.  Hockey pucks are great, too---and they dont roll under the furniture so that you have to crawl under there with a broom handle to scoop it out like you do round rubber balls!  (I speak from experience)

Hi Ann.  Welcome to the site!  You'll like it here.  Lots of fun people and great advice!  I live in Texas with two ratties now.  Button is 3; Zipper, a rescue, is 1 now.  We just ador these little dogs.  Hope to learn more about you and Princess!

Thank you for the welcome, here's a post I put on a Newbie welcome site that has a little info about us....

Thanks for the compliment on Princess!  She is a little sweetheart!  She is so friendly and loves everyone and all other dogs.  We took her to puppy socialization classes that a local vet does here and obedience.  She finished the first session of obedience and is at her first advanced class right now.  She is very bright, and will do anything for a treat!    She doesn't listen to me very well, but my husband has been working with her alot and she's great with him.  We're more snuggle partners and playmates.

We'll have a photo session this week-end and I'll get some new photos of her up on here, we haven't taken pictures for a couple of months.

That's the way it is for us with our two..  What wonderful little companions these guys are!  Can't wait for more pics!  I love her ears, by the way.  Wonder if the tipped one will stand erect in time?  Button, in my avatar, had both ears erect for only a few weeks and then the left one buttoned down flat, for good!  But is just makes her look funny, and that word suits her temperment, and we've really grown to like the "one of each kind" ears!
