I'm looking to get a fixed female to keep Diego company..  He's the only dog in the house and when I take him to other places with other dogs I can see him just come alive.  He's somewhat aggressive towards males though.

I went to petfinder.com and my local newspaper, and I am appalled at the prices!  I found ads that read "This rescue dog was found in a crate full of feces, isn't good with cats, isn't good with kids, and a home visit is required - adoption fee $350.00."

I'm a LOUSY housekeeper and don't want people in my house... and a home visit doesn't prove anything.. you can have a clean house and appear to be a nice person and still treat your pets like dirt, believe me, I've seen it happen.

I also don't have $350.00 to spend.  I paid $150.00 for Diego and about choked on the price since I could clearly see he wasn't a chihuahua...  but I couldn't leave him in that little cat carrier.

Does anyone know of a rescue in Arizona that doesn't require home visits and isn't trying to support their whole rescue off the adoption of one dog?

If everyone recieved kind of love my Diego gives me, there would be world peace.

Well, maybe it's the geographic area but adoption fees of more than about $250 are rare in my area (Georgia/Florida). I got Skipper for $125.

As far as the home visits, I worried about this when I was looking at RatBones Rescue and one of the coordinators told me it's NOT about your house being so well kept that it could be in Good Housekeeping Magazine. They just want to be sure that you feed, water and shelter your pets adaquately and the pets look relatively happy. (they don't want to see boney animals or moldy food or unsafe conditions). It's NOT a big deal. I was worried too because my house is clean but messy and filled with dog toys, horse tack, fishing gear, etc. So if I was you I wouldn't let the home visit prevent me from adopting a rattie I was interested in!

Yeah... I've run rescue groups before... it was guinea pigs and pet rats.. but still same idea. I know what they are looking for. The problem is.. I don't want people in my house.

Just think of me as a rattie who doesn't like people reaching into his/her crate...

I don't even let family come over.  I go out to my friends, I don't have them over.. and strangers are that much harder for me to deal with.

Did you check petfinder.com? And do not worry about house visits. They  never go.

Yeah, I started there actually and it's where I found the prices of $350 for a rescue dog...  I spent most of today on craigslist...  now I'm all depressed, so many dogs, so many excuses...  so few homes.  I wish I could take them all... still, nothing on there meets my needs.  Most of the dogs in my area are red nose pits...  which i LOVE pits, but I don't have the room for one.

I am in Mesa, AZ (Phoenix Metro area) ..  doesn't have to be a pure rattie...  doesn't really have to be a rattie, just very similar...

Willing to pay reasonable rehoming fee...

Are you still looking? Have you tried craigslist? Because I found a couple that come close to what you were looking for on there in the Phoenix area.

Hi,

I am from Phoenix, and I found an ad on Live Deal.  I bought Kayla a month ago and the home had the parents and the pups and parents were well groomed and the house was very clean.  they had one left - they were asking $150 the guys ad expired but I have his email if you want to see if the pup is still available.  I just don't want to post someone's personal email address.  JoAnn

I am having some health problems and may have to give up my Kayla - she is crate trained and gets along with other small dogs. I live in phoenix, AZ She has all her vaccinations and she was spayed one month ago.
She will be 6 mos old this weekend. JoAnn
