I'm new here, just got a rat terrier a couple of months ago and he's a hoot. One habit he has is when he plays with humans or other dogs, he tends to back up to them and bump them with his butt. Do any of your dogs do that? What does it signify? |

| Yes, a lot of our ratties play fight with us butt first. I don't know why, but it seems to be a trait with them. |

Thanks for the welcome, I laughed when I saw the site as I have had some questions about terriers.
And as PamWh can testify, the butt bump is funny and cute--makes us laugh every time.

| It's quite bizarre, Shiloh does this and as she backs up close to you she adds a little one-two kick for good measure, I call it the doggie insult... I even get this little smile that says here, take one of these and one of those... Too funny! |

| I think that is one of the best and the most entertaining Rattie traits! Dottie got the best of a French Bulldog with her butt-smacking fly-bys!! |

My girls do that too!! I call it the "talk to the butt" move. I had a rattie mix who was still doing that move at 10 yrs old...I don't think it's something they outgrow. Just another goofy rattie trait! |

| I don't think they outgrow it - Mayfly and Mitzy both do it but Mayfly has the biggest booty so she really packs a hard "butt punch"! Skipper will also do it....one of the reasons we assumed he had some rattie blood! |

Ha. That's funny. See, I have this silk bedspread, and Rita and Niko were playing on it. Well, I started drying my hair, and Rita goes NUTS when I do this (she thinks its the greatest toy in the world!!!). Well, while she was going nuts, she butt bumped Niko. He slid halfway across the bed and off the side. He had the strangest look of bewilderment as he went over the edge. Hehe. It was too cute. |

Rowdy does it all the time to his "sister" Schatzi! She's a German Shephard mix, so it doesn't seem to bother her at all. She just grabs one of his hind legs in her mouth!
Funny to watch them wrestle! |
